1. Controller and Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how Dataflux s.r.o. (“Company”, “we”, “us” or “our”) handles personal information in connection with the Duplicate Finder mobile application (“Application”) and communications with its users.
Dataflux s.r.o. is located at Děčínská 552/1, 180 00 Praha, Czech Republic.
Our privacy contact is [email protected].
The Application reads files within a folder you select and calculates checksums on your device to identify matching file contents. It does not require an account and does not upload scanned files or scan results to the Company.
We act as the controller of personal information received through support correspondence and other processing carried out under our responsibility.
2. Selected Folders and Access Permissions
You choose a folder through Android’s system folder picker. The Application’s access is limited by the permission granted through that picker and the capabilities of the selected document provider.
A scan may include accessible files and subfolders within the selected location. The setting for hidden files determines whether those files are included where the provider makes them available.
The Application may retain the access grant so that you can revisit or repeat a scan after closing the Application or restarting your device. This does not grant unrestricted access to the device’s storage.
Clearing scan history is separate from withdrawing a folder access grant. Clearing history should not be treated as confirmation that Android has revoked the Application’s access to that folder.
Depending on the providers available on your device, the folder picker may offer local, removable or provider-backed storage. A document provider may use its own network connection to supply the selected files under its own privacy practices.
3. Information Processed during Scanning
The Application processes the following information where available:
- File and folder names.
- File sizes and file types.
- Modification dates.
- Document identifiers, folder references and file-access references.
- File contents read for checksum calculation.
- SHA-256 checksums and groups of files with matching checksums.
- Scan dates, progress information, counts and scan summaries.
- Preferences, including appearance and whether hidden files are included.
The Application first uses file sizes to identify candidates for comparison. It then reads the contents of candidate files and calculates SHA-256 checksums locally.
This requires access to the bytes within those files. Scanning is therefore not limited to file names or other metadata.
The purpose of this processing is to compare file contents and present matching groups for your review. The Application does not use the contents to build advertising profiles or transmit them to the Company.
File names, folder references, checksums and scan results may reveal personal or sensitive information. A checksum is not a guarantee of anonymity: it may allow a file to be recognised when compared with a known file or checksum.
4. Checksums and Scan History
SHA-256 is used as a comparison mechanism. It does not encrypt the scanned files, restrict access to them or replace device security controls.
Scan results display available information about matching files, including their names, sizes, dates, types and shared checksum.
The Application retains local scan records so that you can revisit completed scans and repeat them while folder access remains available. History contains scan information rather than backup copies of the scanned files.
Saved results describe the scan when it was performed. Files may subsequently be changed, moved or removed outside the Application, and access may cease to be available. Repeat a scan when you need updated results.
The Company does not receive your checksums, scan history or comparison results through ordinary use of the Application.
5. Opening Files in Other Applications
You may choose to open an individual result using an external application.
When you do so, Duplicate Finder passes a reference to the selected file and grants access as required for that action. The receiving application may read the actual file contents and process them according to its own functionality and privacy practices.
This access is initiated by you and is separate from the Application’s local scanning process.
Duplicate Finder does not delete, move or modify scanned files. Clearing a scan result or its history does not delete the original files.
6. Automatic Collection and Network Access
The supplied Android release does not request the INTERNET permission or broad storage access.
The Application does not contain advertising, analytics or automatic crash-reporting services. It does not transmit file contents, checksums, folder information, usage events or diagnostic reports to the Company.
It does not request access to your location, camera, microphone, contacts or SMS messages.
The Application does not use advertising identifiers or track your activity across applications or websites.
Document providers, browsers and applications you select may use their own internet connections. Their activity is governed by their own permissions and privacy practices.
7. Support Correspondence and Privacy Policy Website
7.1 Support correspondence
When you contact us, we receive the information contained in your communication. This may include your email address, name if provided, message, attachments and email delivery information.
We use this information to respond to enquiries, investigate reported issues and handle privacy requests.
Providing information to support is voluntary. If you do not provide contact details or sufficient information to understand your request, we may be unable to respond or resolve the matter.
Contacting support does not give us access to your files or scan history. Information you independently include in a message, screenshot or attachment becomes part of that correspondence.
Avoid sending private files, checksums or screenshots containing sensitive file names unless necessary for your enquiry.
7.2 Privacy policy website
Opening the privacy policy link directs an external application, such as your browser, to the webpage displaying this Policy.
The browser connects to the website’s hosting infrastructure. That infrastructure receives your IP address and technical information included in the request, which may include the requested URL, request time, browser type and operating system information.
This information is used to deliver the webpage and may also be processed for infrastructure operation and security. The browser may separately process information according to its own settings and privacy policy.
The Application does not attach file contents, folder references, checksums or scan history to the privacy policy link.
8. Purposes and Lawful Bases
Local file information is processed to provide the scanning and review functions you select. The Company does not receive that information for separate business purposes.
Where we receive and process personal information under the General Data Protection Regulation and applicable Czech data protection law, we rely on:
- Legitimate interests: responding to enquiries, investigating reported problems, making privacy information accessible, protecting relevant infrastructure and establishing, exercising or defending legal claims. We rely on this basis only where processing is necessary and our interests are not overridden by your interests, rights or freedoms.
- Legal obligation: complying with applicable legal requirements, including requirements concerning data protection requests.
Granting Android folder access enables the selected functionality. It does not authorise unrelated use of the files or their collection by the Company.
Acknowledging a privacy notice does not constitute consent to unrelated processing.
We do not use personal information for targeted advertising or make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
9. Recipients and Disclosure
We do not sell or rent personal information or disclose it for targeted advertising.
The Application does not automatically transmit scanned files, metadata, checksums or scan records to the Company or its service providers.
A document provider may process requests needed to supply the files you select. An external application may receive access when you choose to open a result.
Email, hosting and technical infrastructure providers may process support correspondence or webpage connection information as necessary to provide their services.
We may disclose personal information in our possession where required by applicable law or a valid legal process, or where necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. Disclosure is limited to information relevant to the applicable requirement or purpose.
We cannot disclose files or local scan records that we do not hold or have access to.
10. Retention and Erasure
10.1 Local scan records
Scan history and preferences remain on your device until removed through the Application or its stored data is cleared.
Use Clear history to remove saved scan-history records. This does not delete original files and should not be treated as withdrawal of retained Android folder permissions.
To remove all locally stored Application data, use:
Android Settings → Apps → Duplicate Finder → Storage / Storage & cache → Clear storage / Clear data.
Labels may vary between devices. Clearing storage resets the Application. Uninstalling it normally also removes its private local records and associated access grants.
These actions do not delete the original files in selected folders or copies independently retained by other applications and providers.
The release is configured to disable standard Android backup and exclude Application data from Android’s configured cloud-backup and device-transfer mechanisms. Independent device or provider arrangements must be managed separately.
The Company cannot restore deleted local scan records because it does not hold a remote copy. There is no Application account requiring a separate deletion request.
10.2 Information held by the Company
We retain support correspondence for the time needed to resolve the enquiry and reasonably necessary follow-up. Relevant correspondence may be retained longer where necessary to comply with a legal obligation or establish, exercise or defend a legal claim.
The retention period is determined by whether the matter remains open, the need to document its resolution, and applicable legal retention or limitation periods.
Website technical information processed under our responsibility is retained only for the period necessary for delivery, operation or security, or to meet an applicable legal requirement.
We delete or anonymise personal information when it is no longer necessary for these purposes.
11. Security and Processing Locations
The Application limits access through Android’s user-selected folder mechanism and performs checksum comparisons on your device rather than uploading files to the Company.
Protection also depends on your device, operating system, selected document providers and the applications you use to open files. Use a screen lock, install available security updates and review which applications receive file access.
Checksum calculation does not provide encryption or password protection for files or scan history. No device, application or storage system guarantees protection against unauthorised access, loss or failure.
The Application does not automatically transfer scanned files or local results to Company servers. Providers and external applications selected by you may process information in other countries under their own arrangements.
Support correspondence and website connection information are handled through the infrastructure used to deliver those services. Processing locations and international transfer arrangements depend on the relevant providers.
You may request details of recipients, processing locations and applicable international transfer arrangements by contacting [email protected], including information about applicable safeguards and how to obtain a copy.
12. Data Protection Rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request:
- Access to personal information we hold about you.
- Correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Erasure of personal information.
- Restriction of processing.
- A portable copy of information where the legal conditions for portability apply.
Right to object. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests on grounds relating to your particular situation. We will stop the relevant processing unless we demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests, rights and freedoms, or the processing is necessary for legal claims.
Send requests to [email protected]. We may request additional information where reasonably necessary to verify your identity or clarify your request. We will respond within the time limits established by applicable law.
For information held solely on your device, use the Application and Android controls. For files or information retained by another provider, use that provider’s controls or contact it directly.
You may lodge a complaint with the Czech Office for Personal Data Protection (Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů), at https://uoou.gov.cz, or another competent supervisory authority.
13. Younger Users
Duplicate Finder is a general-purpose utility whose intended audience includes teenagers aged 13–17 and adults. This describes its intended audience and does not establish the legal age of consent or represent an age-verification mechanism.
The Application does not require registration or a date of birth. The same folder-selection and local-processing practices apply to all users.
The Company does not receive local file information for advertising, behavioural tracking or profiling. Where support correspondence concerns a younger user, we take their age, interests, rights and reasonable expectations into account.
If we learn that we have received personal information from a child under 13 through an online interaction in circumstances requiring parental authorisation, we will delete it unless retention is legally permitted or required.
A user, parent or guardian may contact [email protected] about personal information held by us concerning a child. This does not provide us with access to the child’s files or scan records.
14. Changes to this Policy
We may revise this Policy to reflect changes in the Application, our information practices or applicable law. The current version will display its last updated date.
Where legally required, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent before introducing the relevant processing. Continued use of the Application is not treated as consent where the law requires a separate affirmative choice.
